Cell Phone/Mobile Device Policy 2025-26
All students may possess personal electronic devices (e.g. cell phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, gaming devices, earbuds/headphones) during school hours—but must keep them put away and unused during instructional time, unless explicitly authorized otherwise.
Offenses are accumulated by semester—students behavior infractions begin again at the beginning of each quarter.
This policy follows Tennessee law (HB 0932) and MNPS Student Code of Conduct (Type 2 Behavior – Electronic Devices – Code 203).
Level A
- Students’ phone will be locked in a lock box until end of day at dismissal.
- Student will retrieve their phone from teacher at dismissal/end of day.
- If they are a bus rider at 2:15 pm or car rider 2:25 pm
- Parent Notified - Successful contact by teacher regarding infraction.
Level B
- Students’ phone will be locked in a lock box until end of day at dismissal.
- Teacher writes referral and sends to administration.
- Student will retrieve their phone from teacher at dismissal/end of day.
- If they are a bus rider at 2:15 pm or car rider 2:25 pm
- This will be a Type 200, code 203 Offense:
- Interventions must be documented in the referral and in Support and Intervention. Schools are to use Restorative Practices Assistant’s Peace Centers, Advocacy Centers, (Tier 2 behavior plan, collaborative referral, behavior contract, restorative consequence, etc.) to address behavior concerns.
